Skin Pen - Skin Needling

Revitalise Your Skin with Advanced Skin Needling Treatments

As we age the architecture of our skin deteriorates, which leads to fine lines, wrinkles, large pores and uneven skin texture. Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), also known as microneedling, is a way to address these signs of aging. CIT creates thousands of micro-injuries in the skin which assists in the promotion of collagen and elastin, the two proteins predominantly responsible for the structure of the skin.

Skinpen® Precision: a collagen induction therapy device indicated to treat acne scarring and surgical scars.

Microneedling ‘aka’ Collagen Induction Therapy ‘CIT’, creates thousands of controlled microinjury in the skin elicit the body’s natural wound healing cascade. This process begins with injury and inflammation and progress to tissue proliferation and ultimately result tissue remodelling including collagen and elastin. Resulting in the thickening of the epidermis gives skin more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. While constant long-term benefit occurs in an ongoing collagen type 3 replaced to stronger more robust type 1 collagen forming natural basket lace like format. Collagen increases up to 400% 6 months following ‘CIT’. Noticeable skin tightness up to one year after treatment.

The Skin Pen treatment may cause some minor discomfort during the treatment. Your Nurse may recommend that a topical numbing agent be used during the treatment to further minimise the discomfort.

a feeling of tightness, dryness and a ‘sunburnt’ appearance, along with mild swelling that subsides within 24 hours. Redness may last for one to three days but can be concealed with mineral makeup. You will be provided products to use for the days following the procedure and applying sunscreen regularly.

*Darker skin may experience darker skin before the skin lightened. We advise the vigilance of sunscreen and avoidance of sun exposure*

For those who wants to improve appearance of facial scars and improve fine lines & wrinkles. Also to treat pigmentation conditions (dyschromia) such as melasma, vitiligo, solar lentigines

  • Have an active skin cancer in the treatment areas
  • Have open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in treatment area
  • Have an allergy to stainless steel or anaesthesia
  • Have a haemorrhagic (bleeding) disorders or haemostatic bleeding dysfunction
  • Pregnant or nursing
  • Are currently taking drugs with the ingredient “isotretinoin” such as Accutane.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure/ burns 24 hours prior to procedure.
  • Discontinue use of retinoids 24 hours prior to procedure

You should discuss treatment goals with your Nurse. It is recommended a series of 3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart. It is recommended to avoid other facial aesthetics treatment the month following your skin pen treatment.

While individual results may vary, in the clinical study, the result were evaluated 6 months after the third final treatment. After this, additional treatments every 6- 8 months be needed to maintain your desired result.

A layer of ‘skinfuse HG’ is applied to the treatment area to protect the skin against abrasion and friction during treatment. The Nurse then selects a depth on the microneedling cartridge to begin the treatment. As the skin pen glides over the skin microchannel are created. Gauze may be used to pat down the affected area after treatment, and it is suggested to apply a generous layer of ‘skinfuse lift HG’ after the treatment.

  • Vitiligo is an isolated light/ white patch in skin occurs when pigment- producing cells (melanocytes) die or stop producing melanin.
    • Cause is unknown, researchers suggest that may be related to family history, autoimmune disease or may be triggered by stress, severe sunburn/ skin trauma such as contact to a chemical.
  • Skin Pen induces a stimulation of like the response of normal wound healing. Resulting in the activation of blood platelets that release growth factors which may reactivate melanocytes to make more pigment. The mechanical trauma stimulates the melanocytes migration from the pigmented areas to unpigmented areas. Promoting the increase the number of melanocytes and stimulate more pigment production.
  • Melasma ‘aka’ chloasma or mask of pregnancy, is a common condition with unknown pathogenesis. Associated with solar and hormonally- stimulated melanocytes increasing Melanocytes Stimulation Hormone (MSH). Causing uneven melanin more commonly found in races with higher pigmentation but can occur in all skin types and over 40-year-old.
  • Solar Lentigines are age spots due to excessive production of melanin pigment which results from over exposure to UV rays from sunlight and tanning beds.
  • Skin Pen Microneedling procedure for melasma and solar lentigines induce keratinocytes turn over and restore the normal pigment activity of melanocytes over pigment areas. This occurs at the dermal epidermal junction (DEJ) in which the Skin Pen target. The lower epidermal hyperpigmentation increase skin turn over produces new cell to dilute pigment result epidermal and dermal remodelling forming new collagen matrix.
